What’s the Point of Exhaust Ports on Garage Doors
That garage door that opens and shuts so effortlessly has several parts that facilitate its smooth movement. One is exhaust ports. They are fitted on garage doors to clear fumes from a garage to protect the people inside.

Do I need an exhaust port for my garage?

Exhaust ports for garage doors come in varying thicknesses. The most common are those that have thicknesses of 1/4, 2 and 3 inches. They are made in different diameters to accommodate the different outer diameters of exhaust hoses. Exhaust hoses are measured by their inside diameters.

What kind of garage exhaust port should I get?

The kind of exhaust port that you will install depends on the hose that you choose. This is the pipe through which the fumes will travel to the port which will direct them outside the garage. There are three main types of garage door exhaust hose systems.

One is the what is known as the crush proof hose and it is the most economic option as well as the simplest. It can be used on most types of vehicles and easily fitted over garage doors. This hose derives its name from the fact that it remains crush proof even after numerous run-overs by cars. Another advantage of this hose is that it can easily be modified into a dual exhaust system. The car needs to be close to the garage door for easy expulsion of fumes.

What other options are available?

There is also the overhead system. It is also user-friendly and simple enough. The system makes use of various types of hose and configurations of lifting them and is therefore best suited for a garage with a number of cars rather than one or two.

Hose reels are the third option. There is a motor-operated option or one that uses manual springs to retract. The reel comes with a direct mount fan or a number of reels which are connected to a central exhaust fan. This is another option that works best for garages with a collection of vehicles or a commercial garage that always has several vehicles in it at a time.

Which exhaust port is best?

The exhaust ports that will be fitted on your garage door depend on the hose system that you choose. This will be determined by the number of cars you have in your garage, your budget and your personal preferences.
